Description
Position OverviewThe University of Kansas Center for Teaching Excellence seeks a Program Manager to develop and implement programs that foster teaching excellence and innovation in faculty and other instructors (e.g., graduate teaching assistants; GTAs). The Program Manager will plan and implement programs that support improved teaching and community-building opportunities for KU instructors. The Program Manager reports to the Director of CTE and is a key member of the CTE leadership team.
Job Description
30% - Plans, coordinates, and evaluates major CTE programs and events that engage faculty in effective and innovative teaching practices including CTE's signature events (Teaching Summit, Student Learning Symposium, and Celebration of Teaching). Responsibilities include organizing conference logistics (e.g., reviewing submissions, scheduling sessions, managing event details), tracking and organizing program deliverables across all initiatives into a conference-style poster session, and conducting event assessment by soliciting feedback from attendees and facilitators, then using that feedback to improve future programming. Coordinates hiring and training of graduate students who support faculty in creating program deliverables.
30% - Plans, coordinates, and evaluates other programming in collaboration with faculty and graduate student instructors to build community around teaching and promote effective and innovative practices. This includes coordinating workshops, orientations, and other programs, as well as developing new offerings to meet emerging needs.
20% - Plans, coordinates, and evaluates programs that guide the Center's strategic development and strengthen its connection to the teaching community. This includes coordinating initiatives such as the CTE Advisory Board and Faculty Ambassadors program, staying informed about higher education and pedagogical trends, planning agendas, taking detailed notes, and monitoring how recommendations are implemented over time.
10% - Writes or contributes to reports, scholarly presentations, and publications on CTE projects (both grant-funded and internally-supported).
5% - Serves as a consultant for individual GTAs, instructors, or departmental groups who contact CTE.
5% - Participates in professional development opportunities and connects with a network of educational development professionals across and outside the university.
Required Qualifications
- An earned master's degree by date of appointment.
- Two (2) years experience teaching courses in higher education.
- Demonstrated project management, data management, and evaluation experience as evidenced by application materials.
- Strong communication and collaborative skills with a wide variety of individuals, departments, and schools including administrators, faculty members, staff, and students as evidenced by application materials.
- Strong written communication skills, as demonstrated by examples of prior work and application materials.
