Position:
The Director of Planned Giving is a strategic and relationship-driven fundraising leader responsible for advancing Babson College’s deferred and complex gift strategy. This role designs and executes a comprehensive planned giving program that integrates seamlessly with major and principal gift efforts, expanding the College’s pipeline of blended and future philanthropic commitments.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Capital Giving, and working closely with frontline fundraisers and Advancement leadership, the Director of Planned Giving leads the strategy, execution, and growth of the College’s planned giving program. This role manages a portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors while serving as the institution’s subject matter expert on complex and deferred gift strategies.
The Director plays a central role integrating planned giving into the broader fundraising ecosystem, partnering with major and principal gift officers to identify opportunities, structure compelling proposals, and advance donor conversations. This individual is responsible for building awareness, deepening internal capability, and ensuring that planned giving is proactively and consistently incorporated into donor engagement strategies.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in planned giving, with experience either within a development organization or in a professional advisory setting such as law, financial planning, or wealth management. Candidates may have served as frontline fundraisers or as trusted advisors to clients establishing charitable trusts, estate plans, or other complex philanthropic vehicles.
Select Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of Babson College’s planned giving strategy, aligning program priorities with broader fundraising and campaign goals.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of the planned giving program, including prospect identification, donor engagement, marketing, and stewardship.
- Manage a portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors, with a focus on securing blended and deferred gifts at the $100,000+ level.
- Develop and execute individualized strategies for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors and prospective donors.
- Partner with Development colleagues, faculty, administrators, and volunteers to advance planned giving opportunities and strengthen donor relationships.
Select Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; JD or other relevant advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of relevant professional experience in planned giving, major gift fundraising, or in related fields such as estate planning law, financial planning, or wealth management.
- Demonstrated experience advising clients or donors on charitable giving strategies, including trusts, estate plans, or other tax-advantaged vehicles.
- Experience working directly with high-net-worth individuals or clients on complex financial, estate, or philanthropic planning decisions.
- Deep knowledge of planned giving vehicles, charitable gift structures, and IRS regulations governing philanthropic giving.
- Proven ability to partner effectively with fundraisers, colleagues, or clients and influence strategy in complex, relationship-driven environments.
